Simon Brown and Jim Palmer to go head-to-head in Germany as GB players return to league action

Simon Brown and Jim Palmer will go head-to-head this weekend when their respective clubs meet in the German League on Saturday as GB players return to league action after last weekend’s Champions League Preliminary Rounds.

Brown was one of six GB internationals in action in the Champions League, helping RSV Lahn-Dill secure their place in next month’s quarter-finals with four wins from four games.

Returning to league action this weekend – with RSV Lahn-Dill currently second in the table – Brown will face Palmer for the third time this season following wins in the league and the German Cup quarter-final.

Palmer’s Rhine River Rhinos Wiesbaden are fourth in the RBBL1 table having won four of their last five games, and they will be wanting to avenge their defeats to RSV Lahn-Dill from earlier in the season.

In Spain, Terry Bywater’s CD Ilunion will be looking to continue their unbeaten season when they welcome Iberconsa Amfiv – featuring Lewis Edwards and Sam Mack – to their home venue in Madrid.

Ilunion are currently top of the Spanish League table, one point ahead of BSR Amiab Albacete, while Amfiv are seventh.

There is plenty of British interest at the top of the table with Gaz Choudhry, Lee Manning, Harry Brown and Kyle Marsh all ensuring Albacete continue to keep the pressure on CD Ilunion at the top.

The four GB players will no doubt be high on confidence after their impressive performances in last weekend’s Champions League Preliminary Rounds with Manning and Brown both being named in the weekend’s All-Star Five as Albacete ended the weekend with a 100 per cent winning record.

This weekend Albacete host Thomas Smith’s Rincon Dental Amivel.

It will be fifth versus sixth when the five GB internationals playing for Mideba Extremadura travel to Fundacion Grupo Norte. Gregg Warburton, George Bates, Phil Pratt, Abdi Jama and Ben Fox will be hoping their side can return to winning ways after a narrow defeat to James MacSorley’s Gran Canaria last time out.

The victory over Mideba two weeks ago has put MacSorley’s team in a play-off place; a spot they will be hoping to consolidate when they host an in-form Bidaideak Bilbao side who have won their last five games.

In Italy, Ian Sagar and Martin Edwards will both be eager for their teams to get back to winning ways.

Sagar’s Special Bergamo Sport travel to Studio 3A Millennium Basketball, while Edwards’ SSD Santa Lucia are away at Dinamo Lab Banco Di Sardegna.
