Biography

The 2017 European Championships was George Bates first international appearance for the GB men’s senior team where the men’s senior squad brought home the silver.

In 2018 the Leicester local shone during the USA v GB World Championships Final delivering 17pts in 17 minutes and achieving a 87% FG shooting average. Taking to court during the second half George certainly made his presence felt with on target shooting. George and the GB team claimed the game and made history as the first GB Men’s Team to win a World Championships title.

With a playing career spanning nearly 10 years, George first played for his home club Leicester Cobras, he then progressed to play within Europe for GSD Porto Torres in 2016/17. In 2017/18 he returned to GB to play for Sheffield Steelers before moving to Europe to play with Mideba.

Training with the senior team, George has previously represented the nation playing for the GB Junior Programme at both the 2014 U22 European Championships and 2013 U23 World Championships.

He has an accomplished domestic UK junior career winning multiple gold medals at the Lord’s Taverners Regional Junior Championships for the North West and Sainsbury’s School Games for Central

George will play for Spanish team Mideba in 2019/20 alongside GB team mates Ben Fox, Abdi Jama, Phil Pratt and Gregg Warburton. Follow the team https://www.midebaextremadura.es
