Become an IAG Competition Organiser!

Applications are now open to become an Inspire a Generation Competition Organiser.

The Inspire a Generation programme seeks to provide local communities a greater breadth of opportunity for people to access and play the sport of wheelchair basketball. Our ambition is to support more people to become active and enjoy the inclusive sport of wheelchair basketball. The long-term aim is to help those who sign-up to continue to enjoy the sport through joining our thriving club network.

To achieve this goal, we are looking for Competition Organisers who share our passion, drive, and belief that activity has the potential to positively change lives in both the short and long term. Two Local Competition Grants are available:

  • Open age group competition
  • U14 age group competition

These grants are designed to support clubs and organisations to provide positive experiences for participants by delivering a sustainable competition format in a fun and inclusive environment.

Grant Wilson, Inspire a Generation Manager, commented:

“This is an amazing opportunity for clubs and organisations to create opportunities for activity that meet the needs of the local environment and is shaped by those on the ground.

“By working with local delivery partners, our goal is to create the first step for participants to engage in the sport without committing to a team within the National League.

“The application process invites new ideas on how we can support new players into the sport and is flexible to work across a variety of partners to suit their individual needs. Some may wish for support for venue hire, whereas others may need support for Officials development. Whatever idea partners have, I would invite them to apply and start a conversation about how we can work together.”

“I am especially proud of the creation of a specific grant for U14 competitions. This is a gap in provision that has been highlighted by our community. I believe the IAG programme is an excellent vehicle to address that gap and support local delivery partners in providing competition for our next generation of players.

“Any affiliated organisation or club can apply for the grant. The IAG programme works with clubs, charities, educational institutions, and professional organisations. BWB are inviting any of those partners that are willing to create local sustainable competition aimed at increasing participation to apply.”
