This morning British Wheelchair Basketball has taken the difficult decision to cancel all remaining fixtures and competitions of its 2019/20 season.
Following a continuous review of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) threat, recognition that the situation has rapidly escalated over the weekend and observance of government advice, the requirement to cancel all remaining fixtures was deemed essential to safeguard our community.
The cancellation will take immediate effect and will remain in place for the remainder of the season. This cancellation applies to all:
- Leagues (National, Junior and Women)
- Competitions (National Championships and Elite 8s)
The following activities will be suspended until May 2020, with a review of the suspension to be considered nearer the time. This suspension extends to all BWB sanctioned activities, including those listed below:
- Regional Academies
- Skills Camps
- Course Delivery
- DISE (Diploma in Sporting Excellence)
- GB Academy
The following activities are currently unaffected by today’s decision, and will be reviewed in due course:
- School Games
- Junior Championships
In line with the emerging Coronavirus (COVID-19) situation BWB recommends that all clubs conduct a review of all activities and training at this time. Should any of our clubs require support or guidance, please contact the office on 01509 279900.
We understand that this will be difficult news for many of our clubs at such a critical point of the season and would like to thank our membership for its continued support and understanding.
We ask that clubs share the news with their membership and community.
Further communication will be circulated to clubs and members in due course regarding the logistical impact of the cancellation on league standings and competitions.
