Background

British Wheelchair Basketball, the National Governing Body for wheelchair basketball in the United Kingdom, is recruiting for a new Independent Non-Executive Director (Commercial), to join its Board and support the organisation’s drive to realise its ambitious strategic vision through to Paris and beyond.

We want to recruit an Independent Non-Executive Director (Commercial) who has commercial experience to support the diversification of our income and to decrease our reliance on exchequer funding. We believe in offering a unique proposition for commercial partners, as we are able to create a partnership that is based around an improved social narrative and not just the exchange of commercial data.

BWB is unique in our impact on society, as we positively improve employability, mental health, resilience, inclusion and support for young people. As a sport where disabled and non-disabled people play on level terms, we are looking for commercial partners who will help us reshape the social fabric of the UK and NI.

Role Description: (Full Board Recruitment Pack)

British Wheelchair Basketball is the National Governing Body for Wheelchair Basketball in Great Britain and a registered charity with the sole purpose of transforming people’s lives.

The Board are responsible for the strategy setting, policy and oversight of our sport, and the CEO is responsible for the day-to-day running of the organisation.The Board meets a minimum of four times a year and has three standing committees reporting to the Board.

As a member of the board, you will be required to:

  • Act as a leader to govern, promote and develop the sport of wheelchair basketball.
  • Create, develop and evaluate BWB’s strategic direction, objectives, mission, plans & values.
  • Ensure that the right people & financial resources are secured to enable BWB to meet its objectives.
  • Provide effective controls which enable risks to be understood, assessed and managed.
  • Provide monitoring and evaluation of success through effective performance management.
  • Deliver obligations to its Association Members, and others are understood and met.

As an Independent Non-Executive Director, you will be able to translate professional knowledge and expertise to BWB context, ensuring effective leadership in your area of specialism.
