“The clinic was a brilliant experience for my learning”
British Wheelchair Basketball (BWB) is committed to supporting referees in their development and in obtaining international licences. In November 2024, the International Wheelchair Basketball Federation (IWBF) held three technical clinics in Bangkok, Thailand, aimed at bringing together aspiring wheelchair basketball Officials to enhance the standard of officiating worldwide. The event featured a mix of classroom workshops, practical sessions, and opportunities for observation.
Supported by BWB, Joe Fermor-Worrell attended the third clinic, the U30 Potential Referee Clinic, to expand his knowledge and practice of wheelchair basketball officiating.
Reflecting on his experience, Joe said: “It was a fantastic opportunity to learn from some of the best referees, both past and present. It’s rare to work with colleagues from outside the European Zone, which made the experience even more enjoyable.”

The clinics brought together 29 instructors from 19 countries, significantly elevating the quality of referee instruction worldwide. Joe added: “The clinic was a brilliant experience for my learning, and I also got the chance to explore Bangkok and attend some of the U23 AOZ qualifiers.” BWB are thrilled that Joe’s experience was both positive and valuable, and we look forward to his exciting journey ahead.
