Team England have announced their Men’s 3×3 and Women’s 3×3 teams set to represent at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games this month.
Jacqueline Scoins-Cass MBE named on Vitality Grassroots Sportswoman of the Year shortlist
British Wheelchair Basketball is delighted to learn that its Board Member and Thames Valley Kings founder Jacqueline Scoins-Cass MBE has been shortlisted for a prestigious national award, recognising her years of dedication, hard work and commitment to the sport.
Jacqueline has been named on the Vitality Grassroots Sportswoman of the Year shortlist for next month’s Sunday Times Sportswomen of the Year Awards 2019.
The award celebrates individuals who have actively engaged with different groups of people within their community through sport.
Since founding Thames Valley Kings in 2004, at age 19, Jacqueline has run the club entirely on a voluntary basis, playing a major role in the club’s success and growth, including expanding to offer adult, junior and recreational wheelchair basketball.
She joined the BWB board in 2017 and was Chair of the South East Regional Wheelchair Basketball Association for nine-and-a-half years, stepping down from the role last month. Jacqueline is a qualified coach, classifier, and table official including at London 2012 Paralympics.
Commenting on her nomination, Jacqueline said: “It’s amazing to be shortlisted for such an phenomenal national award, I don’t feel that I do anything particularly special, I just volunteer my time to continue to provide the opportunity for people to participate in wheelchair basketball 15 years on from founding the club.
“It’s changed my life and those who have been part of the club over its 15-year history. There are some outstanding people who have been shortlisted for this award and each one so deserves to win this award.”
The Vitality Grassroots Sportswoman of the Year award is decided by a public vote.
