IAG Activator programme rolls out across universities in England
British Wheelchair Basketball’s Inspire a Generation Activator programme has been rolled out across universities in England. Serving as an introduction to coaching within the sport, it is a pathway for people wanting to become coaches or work in sports practitioner roles.
Training is delivered as online learning and takes approximately six hours to complete. The course is free and study friendly with flexibility to be done anywhere and at an individuals’ pace. Training is available to anybody across the university scheme over the age of 18, from students to staff.
This is a great opportunity for individuals to work within inclusive sport as they will finish the course with a certificate and further opportunities available to them.
Julia Robathan, Director of Admissions, Recruitment and Marketing at University of East Anglia, commented:
“Our student workforce have thrived off the opportunity to complete the course, both in respect of their confidence with basketball related knowledge, as well as their ability to consider adaptive and inclusive sports and activities in their teaching, coaching and community work. Our new Inspire a Generation activators are already out delivering using their new knowledge, both in our own Sportspark building during inclusive sports programmes, as well as in local schools and community groups.”
Grant Wilson, IAG Programme Manager at British Wheelchair Basketball, commented:
“This is a fantastic opportunity to share our sport with a wide range of students that will impact the sporting structure in a variety of ways. We hope that more will take advantage of the training to give as many people as possible an understanding of disability sport.”
