GB Men claim Bronze and GB Women place fourth at 2026 Worlds
The Ottawa 2026 World Championships have concluded, with the GB Men claiming bronze and the GB Women taking fourth place.
GB Men suffered a defeat in the semi-finals against a lively Italian side, narrowly missing their chance to feature in the gold medal game. Following a day of rest as the 5th – 12th placing games took place across the competition, they returned to play Paris 2024 bronze medallists Germany. A dominant first half for GB gave them a strong lead, and the team held it throughout to take the win 56:67. Topping the scoreboard for GB was Gregg Warburton with 20pts. Phil Pratt had 16 assists. Lee Manning, Oscar Knight and Phil Pratt were joint game leaders on rebounds with 9 rebounds each.
GB Women faced a determined USA side in their semi-final clash, where the Paris 2024 silver medallists ultimately progressed to the gold medal game. In the bronze medal match up, the GB Women’s side rose to the challenge of facing the Netherlands. The GB Women put immense pressure on the team in orange, but ultimately the current European and Paralympic champions claimed the bronze. Robyn Love was team leader on points and rebounds with 15pts and 11 rebounds, and joint team lead with Joy Haizelden on assists with 6 each.
Gregg Warburton and Joy Haizelden were named in the All-Star Fives for their respective sides of the tournament, a testament to their individual performances within a wider team effort.
