Biography

CWBA’s Joy Haizelden made her major senior debut for Great Britain at the 2014 Women’s World Wheelchair Basketball Championships; the following year, the 2.5 player played a crucial role in the GB Women’s bronze medal European Championship campaign – securing the nation a qualification place for the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games.

In 2015 Joy was also a part of the team who was crowned the Women’s U25 World Champions in Beijing, China. The GB squad subsequently achieved back to back U24 European Championships gold medal wins in 2016 and 2018. In 2019 the GB Women’s brought home the U25 World Championships bronze medal.

At the 2016 Rio Games Joy made her Paralympics debut – the GB Women’s Team made history with a stunning fourth place finish, the highest achieved by a women’s team.

2018 has been a phenomenal year for Joy and the GB Women’s Team. The team delivered an outstanding performance at the World Championships held in Hamburg. The squad qualified for the final game and brought home the silver medal – both firsts for a GB Women’s Squad at a major championships.
