England Men and England Women qualify for Glasgow 2026
England Men and England Women have qualified for the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games following their wins at the IWBF European Zonal Qualifier.
The qualifier, hosted by BWB in Nottingham this weekend, saw teams compete on court for their opportunity to play at the Commonwealth Games later this year.
In the Men’s competition, Cyprus Men made history by competing at their first ever international competition. Wales Men and Northern Ireland Men were fierce rivals, meeting in a climactic semi-final where Wales claimed their spot in the final. England Men displayed dominance throughout, ending all but one game with 21 points.

In the Women’s competition, Northern Ireland Women took to the courts in their first appearance at a 3×3 international competition. Wales Women put on a show for the crowds in Nottingham, winning the semi-final against Northern Ireland. Ultimately, England Women’s strong team performances across the pool stage and final secured their place at Glasgow 2026.

Jade Atkin, England Women’s 3×3 player, commented:
“The qualifiers were quite nerve-racking, obviously we didn’t do it the last time round so it was quite the shock to the system but once we were in the game we had the same goals in mind. I got a bronze medal at Birmingham 2022 and I’m looking to up that and get gold!
Oscar Knight, England Men’s 3×3 player, said:
“A lot of us had played together here and there, whether for our country or scrimmages with mates, so we’d already built up a lot of chemistry over the years. I think all four of us have the attributes necessary for 3×3. It’s very fast paced. If you’re big, if you’re fast, if you’re a lower pointer and you’re fast it makes the game a hell of a lot easier!”
3×3 Wheelchair Basketball marks its second ever appearance at a Commonwealth Games at Glasgow 2026, having made its debut at Birmingham 2022.
Scotland Men and Scotland Women have their route secured as hosts of the competition.
