Chairs announced for the Wales Wheelchair Basketball Strategic Steering Group

Following the announcement of a landmark partnership between British Wheelchair Basketball (BWB), Disability Sport Wales (DSW) and Basketball Wales (BW), the co-chairs of the newly formed Wales Wheelchair Basketball Strategic Steering Group (SSG) have been confirmed. The appointments mark an exciting step forward, strengthening the united vision to grow and elevate wheelchair basketball across Wales.
Sara Moore is a retired Welsh Netball player and coach who has represented Wales at three Commonwealth Games and three World Championships. A dual graduate with degrees in both Law and Sports Science, she brings a unique blend of academic, legal, and performance expertise to her work. Sara has extensive experience from a blend of senior leadership roles focused on talent development, education, and athlete wellbeing.
“Wheelchair basketball has incredible potential across Wales, and I’m honoured to step into this role at such a pivotal moment for the sport. As Co-Chair, my focus is on building stronger partnerships, strengthening pathways, and ensuring athletes at every stage feel supported, represented and inspired.”

Marc Longhurst brings over three decades of experience underpinned by a lifelong passion for ensuring equal access to sport for all. His journey began in Judo, where he proudly represented both Wales and Great Britain at junior level and became one of the youngest black belts in the country at just 15 years old. Marc has held the role of Chair previously at Welsh Judo, and was an Independent Non-Executive Director at the British Judo Association.
“This is an exciting opportunity to grow participation in wheelchair basketball across Wales. We already have some amazing talent and passionate clubs and I’m looking forward to working with our wheelchair basketball community to further grow this great sport.”
Work will now begin on a consultation with Welsh clubs as the first step in developing a strategy to grow the sport within Wales. Delivery of the strategy will be led by Basketball Wales with support from Sport Wales, and Steering Group partners British Wheelchair Basketball and Disability Sport Wales.

Cadeiryddion wedi’u cyhoeddi ar gyfer Grŵp Strategol Pêl-fasged Cadair Olwyn Cymru
Yn dilyn cyhoeddi partneriaeth nodedig rhwng Pêl-fasged Cadair Olwyn Prydain (BWB), Chwaraeon Anabledd Cymru (ChAC) a Phêl-fasged Cymru (PFC), mae cyd-gadeiryddion Grŵp Strategol Pêl-fasged Cadair Olwyn Cymru (GS) newydd eu ffurfio wedi’u cadarnhau. Mae’r penodiadau’n nodi cam cyffrous ymlaen, gan gryfhau’r weledigaeth unedig i dyfu a dyrchafu pêl-fasged cadair olwyn ledled Cymru.
Mae Sara Moore yn cyn-chwaraewr a hyfforddwr Pêl-rwyd Cymru sydd wedi cynrychioli Cymru mewn tair Gemau’r Gymanwlad a thair Pencampwriaeth y Byd. Graddiodd deuol gyda graddau yn y Gyfraith a Gwyddor Chwaraeon, ac mae hi’n dod â chymysgedd unigryw o arbenigedd academaidd, cyfreithiol a pherfformiad i’w gwaith. Mae gan Sara brofiad helaeth o gymysgedd o rolau arweinyddiaeth uwch sy’n canolbwyntio ar ddatblygu talent, addysg a lles athletwyr.
“Mae gan bêl-fasged cadair olwyn botensial anhygoel ledled Cymru, ac mae’n anrhydedd i mi gamu mewn i’r rôl hon ar adeg mor allweddol i’r gamp. Fel Cyd-gadeirydd, fy ffocws yw adeiladu partneriaethau cryfach, cryfhau llwybrau, a sicrhau bod athletwyr ym mhob cam yn teimlo eu bod yn cael eu cefnogi, eu cynrychioli a’u hysbrydoli.”
Mae Marc Longhurst yn dod â dros dair degawd o brofiad wedi’i ategu gan angerdd gydol oes dros sicrhau mynediad cyfartal i chwaraeon i bawb. Dechreuodd ei daith mewn Jiwdo, lle cynrychiolodd Cymru a Phrydain Fawr yn falch ar lefel iau a daeth yn un o’r gwregysau du ieuengaf yn y wlad yn 15 oed yn unig. Mae Marc wedi dal rôl Cadeirydd yn flaenorol yn Jiwdo Cymru, ac roedd yn Gyfarwyddwr Anweithredol Annibynnol yng Nghymdeithas Jiwdo Prydain.
“Mae hwn yn gyfle cyffrous i gynyddu cyfranogiad mewn pêl-fasged cadair olwyn ledled Cymru. Mae gennym dalent anhygoel a chlybiau angerddol eisoes ac rwy’n edrych ymlaen at weithio gyda’n cymuned pêl-fasged cadair olwyn i dyfu’r gamp wych hon ymhellach”.
Bydd gwaith nawr yn dechrau ar ymgynghoriad â Chlybiau Cymru fel y cam cyntaf wrth ddatblygu strategaeth i dyfu’r gamp yng Nghymru. Bydd Pêl-fasged Cymru yn arwain y gwaith o gyflawni’r strategaeth gyda chefnogaeth gan Chwaraeon Cymru, a phartneriaid y Grŵp Llywio Pêl-fasged Cadair Olwyn Prydain a Chwaraeon Anabledd Cymru.
