British Wheelchair Basketball launches free schools resource ‘Hoops for All’ to support inclusive sport in schools across the UK

British Wheelchair Basketball (BWB) has launched its brand-new, free-to-access online resource designed to help schools introduce wheelchair basketball to children of all ages and abilities.

Launched to coincide with National Schools Sports Week (16-22 June), which this year celebrates 30 years of the Youth Sport Trust, Hoops for All aims to make the sport more accessible in the classroom and the playground.

The toolkit includes 26 easy-to-use activity cards, each linked to a Key Stage (1-4) and focused on a fundamental skill to help teachers deliver fun, engaging sessions that build confidence, develop ability and promote participation in wheelchair basketball.

Several of the activities are supported by animated video demonstrations, helping teachers of all experience levels get started with ease. The resource also includes signposting for young people interested in joining a local club or finding out more.

“Our mission at British Wheelchair Basketball is to make wheelchair basketball an everyday sport – a game for everyone, regardless of disability,” said Justine Baynes, CEO of British Wheelchair Basketball. “We believe all children and young people should have access to inclusive, high-quality physical activity. With Hoops for All, we hope to empower schools and teachers with the tools to bring the sport to life in their classrooms and help more students discover the energy and fun that wheelchair basketball offers.”

Hoops for All supports the Youth Sport Trust’s Always Active campaign for 2025, which recognises the importance of giving children consistent opportunities to move and play – not just in PE lessons but throughout the school day.

Teachers and schools can download the full Hoops for All toolkit and access supporting videos here.
