British Wheelchair Basketball and Ball Out 3x3 announce groundbreaking partnership

British Wheelchair Basketball (BWB) is proud to announce an exciting new partnership with Ball Out 3×3, the UK’s largest 3×3 basketball tournament, to further integrate wheelchair basketball into their competition programme.

Ball Out 3×3 is dedicated to using sport as a tool for social, academic, physical and vocational change, particularly for young people and people from BME and disadvantaged backgrounds.

This collaboration will ensure that wheelchair basketball players have more opportunities than ever to compete in high-energy 3×3 tournaments.

The partnership will see BWB and Ball Out 3×3 formally collaborate to deliver wheelchair basketball competitions as part of Ball Out’s 3×3 national roll-out. While Ball Out 3×3 has previously hosted wheelchair basketball competitions, this marks the first official programme partnership between the two organisations who are both committed to inclusivity and growing the game.

The Ball Out 3×3 tour has seen events take place in major cities across the UK, including London, Birmingham, Manchester, Nottingham and Leeds, with over 3,000 participants taking part in last summer’s Ball Out 3×3 events.

Jo Rutavicius, British Wheelchair Basketball Development Director, said:
“This partnership with Ball Out is a huge step forward in creating more competitive opportunities for wheelchair basketball players in the fast-paced and exciting 3×3 format. Ball Out has been instrumental in growing the sport across the UK, and we are excited to work together to create even more pathways for people to enjoy our game in the lead up to Glasgow 2026.”

Julius Joseph, CEO of Ball Out 3×3, added:
“We are excited to collaborate with British Wheelchair Basketball to make 3×3 basketball more inclusive and accessible than ever before. This partnership is a significant milestone in expanding opportunities for wheelchair basketball players, ensuring they have a platform to showcase their talent in high-energy competitive environments. Together, we aim to continue growing the sport and inspiring more players to get involved.”
