Already a keen amputee footballer, Ben found wheelchair basketball by chance on his way to watch his beloved Arsenal. It was during a stop at a service station when he was introduced to the sport by a former GB player.
Commencing his playing career at Wolverhampton Rhinos, Ben soon earned his first junior GB international cap at the U23 World Championships in 2013. After taking a short break to focus on his education and career development, Ben returned to the GB Performance Programme in 2015.
In 2017, Ben and his junior team made history on the courts of Toronto as the first British team to win the U23 World Championship title.
Despite undergoing major heart surgery in the build-up to the 2019 European Championships, Ben made his debut appearance for GB’s senior team at the Championships in Poland, winning European gold. Ben would then make his Paralympic debut at the delayed 2020 Tokyo Games.
