(Welsh language version available below)
British Wheelchair Basketball (BWB), Basketball Wales (BW), and Disability Sport Wales (DSW) are proud to announce a landmark partnership to develop and grow Wheelchair Basketball in Wales from grassroots participation through to elite international performance.
This strategic collaboration is built on a shared vision to elevate the sport across the nation, supported by the formation of a Wales Wheelchair Basketball Strategic Steering Group (SSG). The SSG will be led by an Independent Chair, who will be appointed through an open recruitment process to ensure neutral and inclusive leadership.
The newly formed Steering Group will include representatives from all three partner organisations and will work closely with Sport Wales to shape a sustainable and inclusive future for Wheelchair Basketball.
Key Goals of the Partnership:
- Strategic Leadership: Formation of a Strategic Steering Group (SSG), including representatives from BWB, BW, and DSW, to guide the direction and delivery of Wheelchair Basketball in Wales
- Shared Governance & Resources: Basketball Wales will lead the operational delivery of the sport long-term, working with all partners and Sport Wales to ensure a sustainable model for the delivery of Wheelchair Basketball in Wales
- Long-Term Strategy: Co-creation of a strategy for Wheelchair Basketball in Wales
- Performance Pathways: Development of a Welsh performance pathway aligned to BWB’s GB Performance Programme, supporting athletes from talent identification to elite competition, including the 2026 Commonwealth Games and beyond

There are some phenomenal clubs across the country, and the passionate volunteers within them are dedicated to making wheelchair basketball in Wales the best it can be. We are proud to be working alongside Basketball Wales, British Wheelchair Basketball, and everyone involved in the sport to achieve this.”
