CWBA retain the 2018 National Championships Women’s League Title.

Dramatic scenes unfolded at EIS Sheffield as the UK’s two leading women’s wheelchair basketball teams fought point for point for the 2018 National Championships Women’s League title.

CWBA came out fighting keen to retain their National Championship title and make the double after the team topped the Women’s League first division for the 2017/18 season. Dominating the first quarter, the CWBA established a clear 10 point lead with the team’s Hamer her presence felt just seconds into the game.

The Angels of the North, under new Head Coach and former GB player Anna Jackson, answered back in the second quarter closing the gap to make it an eight point game going into half time.

In what was simply a spectacular example of wheelchair basketball, the game saw the elite of GB’s current and past women’s squads fight it out for the Championship title.

Ultimately it was not to be for the Angels of the North, who delivered a stunning fourth quarter and closed the gap to a nail biting five point deficit. CWBA emerged from the battle victorious closing the game 56-50, retaining the National Championships Women’s League title for another year.

The game shall be remembered as a shining example of the quality of women’s team sport that is currently being played by British teams.
