Wheelchair basketball is the biggest Paralympic team sport in the UK. It is a fast-paced and fast-growing sport that allows disabled and non-disabled people to compete together in its domestic leagues and competition.
British Wheelchair Basketball (formerly the Great Britain Wheelchair Basketball Association) is the national governing body for wheelchair basketball in the United Kingdom. We are a registered charity and representative body of wheelchair basketball in England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales.
We are responsible for delivering the sport at all levels, from grassroots to the GB teams who compete at the Paralympic Games. We run domestic leagues and competitions, run coaching and development programmes and qualifications for coaches and officials, and support a network of clubs across the country. We also run the GB elite performance programme and the development pathways that underpin it.
Our National League consists of 55 teams. In addition, we have 18 teams in the Women’s League, and eight in the Junior League. We also run a groundbreaking Women’s Premier League, and support teams in the BUCS league.
We believe our sport should be open and accessible to anyone who wants to be involved, whether as an athlete, parent, coach, official, volunteer or fan. We are committed to treating everyone with dignity, respect and fairness and ensuring that the wheelchair basketball community is one where everyone can thrive. We value diversity and recognise the need to ensure that people with different backgrounds and experiences are able to shape our sport to help us best meet the needs of our community.
