After having her right leg amputated following more than 20 unsuccessful operations to even out the lengths, Jude Hamer was introduced to wheelchair basketball at her local British Paralympic Association’s Paralympic Potential Day.

Immediately falling in love with the fast-paced nature of the sport, Jude’s teacher introduced her to the Exeter Otters club in 2007. Just two years later, the Exeter native made her international debut at the 2009 BT Paralympic World Cup (Manchester, UK), subsequently going on to win bronze with the GB Women at the 2009, 2011, 2013, 2015 & 2017 European Championships.

At her first World Championship in 2010, Jude assisted the GB Women to what was then their highest ever ranking of sixth – going on to break this record four years with an historical fifth place finish at the 2014 World Championships in Toronto, Canada. In 2018 the squad achieved it’s first ever World Championships podium finish winning the Silver Medal.

In addition to her senior achievements, Jude has also had much success on the junior international circuit, having earned a Women’s U25 European silver medals (2013) and a Women’s U25 World bronze medal (2011).

A phenomenally determined individual, in 2007 Jude featured in the BBC2 programme Beyond Boundaries in which she trekked across Ecuador.

In 2021, Jude was part of the history-making Loughborough Lightning squad as they won the first ever BWB Women’s Premier League title.

Jude made history at Birmingham 2022 in the first ever appearance of wheelchair basketball in a Commonwealth Games, proudly representing Team Scotland.
