Role Overview

Wheelchair basketball is the biggest Paralympic team sport in the UK. It is a fast-paced and fastgrowing sport that allows disabled and non-disabled people to compete together in its domestic leagues and competition. In the recent Paralympic Games in Paris, our men’s team won a silver medal, equalling their best ever finish at a Paralympic Games.

British Wheelchair Basketball is the national governing body for wheelchair basketball in the United Kingdom. We are a registered charity and representative body of wheelchair basketball in England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales.

We are responsible for delivering the sport at all levels, from grassroots to the GB teams who compete at the Paralympic Games. We run domestic leagues and competitions, run coaching and development programmes and qualifications for coaches and officials, and support a network of clubs across the country. We also run the GB elite performance programme and the development pathways that underpin it.

Overview of the role:

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Integrity and Governance Manager to lead the organisation in policy, compliance, safeguarding and disciplinary. This role will ensure that British Wheelchair Basketball operates within the highest standards, promoting a culture of integrity and respect throughout all levels of the sport.

Main responsibilities

The priorities for the role are:

Governance:

  • Support the organisations compliance with the Code for Sports Governance, monitoring policies and procedures of the organisation.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, regulations, and best practices, liaising with relevant departments to ensure up to date practices.
  • Lead on the compliance with partner frameworks such as the CPSU, Ann Craft Trust and UKAD. Produce implementation plans and staff training to support delivery across the organisation.
  • Collaborate with external partners, including UK Sport, Sport England, and other partners to ensure alignment with national standards.

Safeguarding:

  • Promote a culture of integrity at all levels of the sport, supporting clubs and partners to uphold the highest standards of wellbeing and safeguarding.
  • Act as the organisations Lead Safeguarding Officer, implementing the organisations Safeguarding Policies and Procedures, responding to concerns, allegations and investigations.
  • Liaise with relevant authorities and partners to effectively lead on Case Management. Manage the Safeguarding Case Management Group, leading on recruitment and training of members, and case management.
  • Advise on League regulations relating to safeguarding, whilst leading on role requirements for workforce within the sport such as self-declarations and DBS risk assessments.
  • Provide support, advice and guidance to Safeguarding Leads at BWB Events and Camps
  • Act as Lead Safeguarding Officer at BWB events where required • Lead the BWB Safeguarding Working Group, championing development and good practice in all areas of work.
  • Integrity Lead on the implementation of the BWB Disciplinary Policy, responding to concerns, allegations and investigations.
  • Support clubs to develop robust policies in order to respond to low level concerns and effectively manage disputes.
  • Champion high levels of health and safety and risk assessment within the club network.
  • Training and Development: Stay up to date on trends and developments in governance and safeguarding within sport, providing regular training opportunities for staff and volunteers.
  • Manage the Club Welfare Officer Network with regular meetings for club volunteers to engage and share good practice.
  • Work with the BWB Marcomms team to plan regular content for digital campaigns.

Other:

  • Monitoring and Reporting, including directly reporting to the board on Integrity matters.
  • Budget Management
  • Support the smooth running of the sport, including competitions and events where required.
  • Support the implantation of the BWB Diversity and Inclusion Action Plan.
  • Ensuring the health, safety and welfare of all involved with wheelchair basketball.
  • Following safeguarding procedures for children and adults.
  • Undertaking other duties as appropriate to achieve BWB objectives.
