England Pathway Head Coach (Closes: 5pm on 22nd July 2024)

Job Title: England Pathway Head Coach (3 positions available – dependant on geographical location).

Salary: £100 per pathway session, £20 for providing quality and individualised feedback for athletes. Complete renumeration and expenses details in full job description.

This income is not taxed at source. It is the coaches responsibility to make their own arrangements with the tax office regarding any payments received from British Wheelchair Basketball.

Duration: 1 year fixed contract

Reports to: England Pathway Manager

Closing Date: 22nd July 2024

Application Timeline:

Applicants will be notified by the 26th of July if they are progressing to interview stage.

Interviews (45 minutes) and court assessments (1 hour) will be held on the 7th and 8th of August in David Ross Sports Village, University of Nottingham.

Successful coaches will be appointed 16th of August 2024.

 

Role Overview:

The role of the England Pathway Head Coach is critical in realising our vision for our pathway athletes.  We are looking for a passionate and committed individual who wants to work with us to develop our players of the future.  The role is an exciting and varied one and will provide the successful candidate the opportunity to lead the planning, delivery and review of a comprehensive training programme for athletes, aligned to the England Player.

We want to appoint an individual who is as committed to their own self development and who is willing and able to engage in ongoing development.

As part of the role, you will be expected to identify potential talented athletes across BWB sanctioned leagues and will be expected to develop open and transparent relationships with our Club Coaches.  In addition, there will be expectations of attendance at National Junior Championships, fulfilling a specific role.

The Head Coach will play a key role in working closely with the England Pathway Manager and supporting the Assistant Coach to a programme of appropriate training sessions that focus on technical and tactical development and equip the players for a competitive environment.

The coach must also be available and support facilitation of athlete educational sessions.

The Head Coach will take responsibility for ensuring that all players, and their associated Club Coaches, are provided with detailed feedback at specific points in the programme (post each pathway day).

The successful candidate will be expected to hold a minimum Level 2 Coaching Certificate in Wheelchair Basketball.

  • Sunday 8th June 2025
    (these dates will be paid at the hourly rate)

Available for National Junior Championships on:

  • 2nd and 3rd of August 2025
  • Sunday 15th June 2025
  • Sunday the 13th July 2025
  • Sunday 27th July 2025

Available for 4 CPD days

  • Dates TBC at interview

Key Responsibilities:

  • To lead the planning, delivery, and review of training sessions as a part of the English Pathway alongside the Assistant Coach.
  • To support the English Pathway Assistant coach to fill in tailored feedback for each player.
  • To be available and actively involved in competitions aligned with the English Player Pathway.
  • To attend all CPD opportunities and be committed to personal development/ reflection.
  • To maintain regular and timely contact with the English Pathway Officer.
  • To take a person-centred approach to the development of the pathway athletes, focussing on their off-court development as well as their development and behaviours on court.
  • To observe all BWB policies and procedures, including the Code of Conduct and Equal Opportunities Policy at all times and to ensure that they do not take advantage of their position as a coach in order to recruit player to any basketball club with which they are associated. Any proven breach may result in the coaching appointment being terminated.
