England Pathway Assistant Coach (Closes: 5pm on 22nd July 2024)

Job Title: England Pathway Assistant Coach (3 positions available – dependant on geographical location).

Salary: £80 per pathway session, £20 for providing quality and individualised feedback for athletes. Complete renumeration and expenses details in full job description.

This income is not taxed at source. It is the coaches responsibility to make their own arrangements with the tax office regarding any payments received from British Wheelchair Basketball.

Duration: 1 year fixed contract

Reports to: England Pathway Manager

Closing Date: 22nd July

Application Timeline:

Applicants will be notified by the 26th of July if they are progressing to interview stage.

Interviews (45 minutes) and court assessments (1 hour) willl be held on the 7th and 8th of August in David Ross Sports Village, University of Nottingham.

Successful coaches will be appointed on the 16th of August.


Role Overview:

The role of the England Pathway Assistant Coach is critical in realising our vision for our pathway athletes.  We are looking for a passionate and committed individual who wants to work with us to develop our players of the future.  The role is an exciting and varied one and will provide the successful candidate the opportunity to support the planning and delivery of training and competitions aligned to the England Player Pathway.

The coach must be willing to fully engage in all CPD.

The Assistant Coach will help the head coach to construct detailed feedback about pathway athletes at specific points in the programme (following each pathway day).

The successful candidate will be expected to hold a minimum Level 1 Coaching Certificate in Wheelchair Basketball.

  • Sunday 20th October 2024
  • Sunday 22nd December 2024
  • Sunday 6th April 2025
  • Sunday 8th June 2025
    (these dates will be paid at the hourly rate)

Available for National Junior Championships on:

  • Sunday 15th June 2025
  • Sunday the 13th July 2025
  • Sunday 27th July 2025
  • 2nd and 3rd of August 2025

Available for 4 CPD days

  • Dates TBC

Key Responsibilities:

  • To support the English Pathway Head Coach with planning, delivery, and review of English Pathway Training days.
  • To support the English Pathway Head coach fill in tailored feedback for each player.
  • To be available and actively involved in competitions aligned with the English Player Pathway.
  • To attend all CPD opportunities and be committed to personal development/ reflection.
  • To maintain regular and timely contact with the English Pathway Officer.
  • To take a person-centred approach to the development of the pathway athletes, focussing on their off-court development as well as their development and behaviours on court.
  • To observe all BWB policies and procedures, including the Code of Conduct and Equal Opportunities Policy at all times and to ensure that they do not take advantage of their position as a coach in order to recruit player to any basketball club with which they are associated. Any proven breach may result in the coaching appointment being terminated.
  • To have the competencies to lead pathway sessions in the case of Head Coach absence with support from the Head Coach and Talent Manager.
