Cardiff Met Archers

Meet the Team: https://archers.basketball/wpl/

Established in 1999, we currently operate 24 teams and groups ranging from U8 to the senior squads.

At Archers Basketball, we are person-centred and offer an experience that goes beyond a playing capacity. We are passionate about providing authentic opportunities for individuals to fulfil their potential and developing them as basketball citizens who positively contribute to the community.

Our existing wheelchair programme has seen, alongside our national league team, our BUCS team win bronze at the 2019 University Championships.

Our running game teams include the only Welsh franchise in the WBBL, as well as a NBL Division 2 Men’s side that also contributes large numbers of international players to the Welsh national team squads.

Training for the WPL will take place at Cardiff Met’s Cyncoed Campus at the Archers Arena, home of Archers Basketball. With elite strength and conditioning coaches and facilities, performance analysis support, a dedicated Athlete Support Officer, physio and massage opportunities, and more, at Cardiff Met there is a dedicated support network designed to make every player the best they can be.

Archers Arena on gamedays is a hive of activity, with all age groups from across the club involved in playing, officiating, and cheering on their club-mates. At Cardiff Met Archers, we’re constantly developing our game-day experience, making it bigger and better every year. With some triple headers in the calendar this year, watching our WBBL, WPL, and D2 Men in action on a Super Saturday is not to be missed, while our regular Men’s Madness events showcases the best of the Men’s Programme from U18s through to the senior sides.

East London Phoenix

Meet the Team: https://www.uel.ac.uk/about-uel/news/2021/november/east-london-phoenix-rises-sportsdock

The East London Phoenix Women’s Premier League team is the University of East London’s first sporting franchise in its history. It marks another statement of intent for a programme that over the past decade has come from sporting newcomer, to one of the leading dual career universities in the UK.

The university is a stone’s throw from the centre of London and boasts some of the best indoor facilities in capital. The home arena “SportsDock” is part of the London 2012 sporting legacy. The team will be playing in the very same place as the US Olympic team trained in 2012, meaning they are in illustrious company for those who have graced the hardwood. SportsDock is already home to the BBL and WBBL London Lions teams making it a top choice for both student and non-student athletes. A high talented support team and a drive for excellence makes London the destination of choice for aspirational players looking to progress to the next level.

The local community plays a key role in the university’s unique identity and reflects the inclusive and diverse student population. It provides opportunity to many from the local community to further their education, whilst inspiring and raising aspirations of young people through its Sport in Your Futures Programme. The franchise team will be no different. It will do this by offering opportunities for its players and students to develop skills on and off the court, all possible by being a student led franchise. It’s your opportunity to be the next role model in the lives of those in the community and help to shape the next generation.
