Diccon Edwards has announced his departure from his role of Performance Director at British Wheelchair Basketball.
Diccon began his journey with BWB in February 2022 as Interim Performance Director prior to taking up the role permanently in July the same year. Since then, he has led the NGB to success across a busy schedule of Majors for the GB teams and has played a leading role in developing the pathways for players and coaches.
Following his appointment as Performance Director, Diccon navigated the GB squads out of a difficult transition period following the COVID-19 pandemic through to qualifying for and competing at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games. The GB Men’s senior team achieved European Gold, Paralympic Silver and World Silver, and the GB Women achieved European Silver and the Osaka Cup. The pathway for players and coaches has gone from strength to strength, including gold at the 2024 Men’s U23 Europeans and silver at the 2023 Women’s U25 Worlds.
Diccon Edwards commented:
“It has been an incredible experience working with the players and staff, and I would like to thank them all personally for supporting me in my time in the role. I have absolute confidence in how the teams will continue to develop and deliver inspiring performances in the LA cycle. I am proud to have played a small part in the teams’ successes and will continue to be a huge supporter of them in the future.”
Justine Baynes, CEO of British Wheelchair Basketball, commented:
“Diccon has made a major impact on the organisation over his time working with us and has driven the sport forward to new heights. His achievements with the squads and with the staff team are immeasurable, and will have a lasting legacy as we continue to push forward.
“I’d like to personally thank Diccon for his massive contributions to the NGB during his time with us, and wish him all the best as he begins an exciting new chapter.”
The recruitment process will begin over the coming weeks for a new Performance Director.
