Ade Orogbemi nominated for prestigious PLx Pathway Coach Award

Ade Orogbemi has been nominated for the PLx Pathway Coach Award, an award dedicated to an individual who has developed and delivered a successful pathway programme.

Ade has played an integral role in the development of players across the British Wheelchair Basketball pathways, creating an environment for these athletes to achieve success on and off court. Alongside coaching East London Phoenix, the three-time Paralympian and two-time Paralympic bronze medallist was Head Coach for the GB Men U23 who claimed victory in spectacular form at the IWBF U23 European Championships earlier this year.

On his nomination, Ade commented:
“It means a lot to me to be involved with the coaching at any stage of a player that comes through the door. I believe I have a lot of experience over twenty years of playing and coaching. It means a lot to me to give back to the next generation of players and give back as much as possible so we can continue the production of players that are capable of representing GB at the highest level.”

Diccon Edwards, Performance Director at British Wheelchair Basketball, commented:
“Ade was a key person in reinstating the [GB Academy programme], so he’s not only led the programme for the last couple of years, but he’s also really supported and developed the players over that time. His ability to support and develop them as individuals but also to create an environment where they understand what high performance looks like and how inclusive it is has enabled them to go on and be successful.”

The PLx Awards 2024 are a celebration of the outstanding achievements of those who contribute to making extraordinary sporting moments happen across the year. The awards itself take place on December 3rd during the annual conference.
