Message from CEO Lisa Pearce – 2 November 2020

You will no doubt have seen that on Saturday, the Prime Minister announced new restrictions for England in order to control the spread of the coronavirus pandemic. England will go into a four-week national lockdown on Thursday (5 November) until 2 December.

COVID-19 restrictions across the UK that include the suspension of all grassroots sport, has impacted Wales, Northern Ireland, and now England.

We fully support the measures being put in place by Governments to protect the health and wellbeing of the UK.

I do however fully endorse the need for Government to act now to ensure that community clubs (and facilities) are able to weather the storm and emerge resilient post COVID-19. I am certain that sport and physical activity should be part of the solution, but this is only possible if our community facilities and participants are able to navigate the journey with us.

During this pandemic, we have seen inequalities continue to grow as underrepresented groups are disproportionately impacted. It is vitally important that as we transition from COVID-19, funding is ring-fenced to address this inequality (disability, socio economic, ethnically diverse communities, long-term health conditions) and ensure that there is a holistic return to activity for all.

I am so proud of the resilience our community has shown through this difficult year and I am certain we will continue to pull together to support one another through this autumn and winter period.

On Thursday, we will release our next calendar of online sessions and workshops. These resources will be published on a six-week cycle and feature sessions with GB athletes, mental well-being workshops, at-home training and fitness ideas.

It is our priority to keep our community engaged and supported in the coming weeks. Please do let us know what else you would like to see – our doors are always open.

Our community is strong and will get through this together.
