George Bates top-scores in Spain; Gregg Warburton posts season best points total

High scores from George Bates and Gregg Warburton ensured Mideba Extremadura returned to winning ways with Bates scoring a weekend-high 31 points, while Warburton scored 25 points – his best total in the league this season.

Bates scored three three-pointers and 14 of his 16 field basket attempts to top last weekend’s points standings in the Spanish League. Bates, Warburton, Phil Pratt and Ben Fox all helped Mideba to a 85:49 victory over Fundación Vital Zuzenak.

Warburton’s 25 points was his highest points total in the league this season, taking his points tally to 175 points for the season. Warburton also assisted a further eight baskets.

Ben Fox scored 11 points – including a three-pointer – while Phil Pratt assisted six and posted six rebounds.

Mideba are currently seventh in the table, four points off the top-four play-off places.

BSR Amiab Albacete’s four British players couldn’t take advantage of CD Ilunion’s 63:51 defeat to BSR ACE Gran Canaria as Albacete lost 71:62 at Bidaideak Bilbao.

Gaz Choudhry was the game’s top-scorer, scoring 18 points, with Kyle Marsh adding a further 11 points. Harry Brown and Lee Manning both scored nine points.

Albacete and CD Ilunion remain level on points at the top of the table with 28 points; James MacSorley’s Gran Canaria are two points behind in third.

There was a British head-to-head in Spain with Thomas Smith’s Rincon Dental Amivel beating Iberconsa Amfiv 44:67.

Thomas Smith scored two points for Amivel, while Lewis Edwards scored nine points for Amfiv, with Sam Mack also featuring for Amfiv.

In Germany, Jim Palmer and his Rhine River Rhinos Wiesbaden side played the first of three play-off games against Baskets 96 Rahden with a 58:70 defeat.

Palmer scored six points and contributed with four rebounds and three assists.

The two sides will meet again on 21 and 22 March with the German play-offs played over three games.
