Harry Brown and Lee Manning named in All-Star Five as GB players progress in Champions League

Harry Brown and Lee Manning were both named in the weekend’s All-Star Five as six GB players helped their respective clubs progress into the quarter-finals of the IWBF Champions League.

BSR Amiab Albacete – featuring Brown, Manning, Gaz Choudhry and Kyle Marsh – and Simon Brown’s RSV Lahn-Dill won all four of their Preliminary Round games in their respective groups as they advanced through to the next round of the competition.

Choudhry and Manning were among the leading scorers from the weekend, with Choudhry scoring 84 points and Manning 82 across the four games. In total, the four British players playing for Albacete scored 246 out of the Spanish side’s 382 points (64 per cent).

All four players played a key role in Albacete’s success with Kyle Marsh scoring six three-pointers en-route to his points total of 48, in addition to the 28 assists, putting Marsh in the top-10 for assists over the course of the weekend.

Harry Brown continued his fine form this season being named in the All-Star Five along with Manning, after four outstanding displays which saw Brown end the weekend with 32 points, 24 assists and 24 rebounds.

As well as top-scoring for Albacete, Choudhry posted the third highest number of assists across the competition with 46, including 13 against Italian side GSD Porto Torres; a game which saw Choudhry record a triple-double with 18 points and 11 rebounds.

Albacete will now play RSB Thuringia Bulls, Galatasaray S.K.and Bidaideak Bilbao in Group A of the quarter-finals (12-15 March).

In Bilbao, it was also a successful weekend for Simon Brown as he helped RSV Lahn-Dill secure their spot in the quarter-finals with four wins from their four games.

Building on his good form from the league, Brown scored 20 points and posted 10 assists and six rebounds.

RSV Lahn-Dill will play in Group B in the quarter-finals where three of the four teams will feature GB players with Terry Bywater’s CD Ilunion and James MacSorley’s BSR ACE Gran Canaria both being drawn in Group B. Besiktas HDI SiGORTA will be the other team in the group.

The quarter-finals will take place on 12-15 March with the GB players returning to league action in their respective leagues this weekend.
