Final league games for Simon Brown and Jim Palmer; cup action for GB players in Spain

Simon Brown and Jim Palmer will both play their final league games of the 2019/20 season in Germany this weekend, while GB players will be in cup action on a busy weekend in Spain.

Brown’s RSV Lahn-Dill will end the regular season in Germany with a home game against the league leaders RSB Thuringia Bulls; with both teams already guaranteed a place in the German play-off semi-finals as the top-two in the league.

A win against BG Baskets Hamburg would guarantee Jim Palmer’s Rhine River Rhinos Wiesbaden a place in the play-off quarter-finals, with his team currently fifth in the table, level on points with their opponents, who are sixth.

After this weekend the German League will progress into their end of season play-offs. 3rd – 6th will compete in the quarter-finals, with the winners advancing through to the semi-finals where they will play first and second in the league; the winners of the semi-finals will then meet in the final.

In Spain, 13 GB players will be in action in the Copa del Rey with the quarter-finals, semi-finals and final all being held in Madrid this weekend.

After a thrilling game last weekend in the league, Terry Bywater’s CD Ilunion will once again play Mideba Extremadura – a team featuring five GB internationals – in Saturday morning’s quarter-finals.

Just three points separated the two teams last weekend in an end-to-end game which saw Terry Bywater’s side claim victory to continue their reign at the top of the Spanish league.

After pushing the league leaders all the way last weekend, George Bates, Gregg Warburton, Phil Pratt, Abdi Jama and Ben Fox will be hoping they are the ones celebrating on Saturday morning.

The winner will play Bidaideak Bilbao or BSR ACE Gran Canaria in the semi-finals later on Saturday.

Gaz Choudhry, Harry Brown, Lee Manning and Kyle Marsh will also be in action as BSR Amiab Albacete play Fundacion Grupo Norte.

If Albacete win on Saturday morning, they will play again later in the afternoon in a British head-to-head against either Lewis Edwards and Sam Mack’s Iberconsa Amfiv or Thomas Smith’s Rincon Dental Amivel.

The 3rd/4th play-off will take place at 8:30am (UK Time) on Sunday morning, while the final is scheduled for 11am (UK Time).

In Italy, Ian Sagar and Martin Edwards continue their league seasons after both players scored 25 points last weekend.

Sagar’s Special Sport Bergamo travel south to Deco Group Amicacci Giulianova, while Edwards’ SSD Santa Lucia host third place UnipolSai Briantea 84 Cantù.
