It might still be winter but the race for the play-off places is heating up in Spain, with GB players continuing their club seasons in Spain and Germany this weekend.
There’s set to be a fascinating clash between two teams featuring British players when Mideba Extremadura host BSR Gran Canaria on Saturday. It’s a game which will see Phil Pratt, Gregg Warburton, Abdi Jama, George Bates and Ben Fox take on James MacSorley’s side.
Only one point currently separates the two teams, with Gran Canaria in fourth and Mideba in fifth, meaning this could be a big moment in the race to secure a top-four play-off place.
Terry Bywater’s CD Ilunion continued their perfect season to date, securing their 10th win from 10 games in Spain last weekend. The Spanish league leaders return to action this weekend with a visit to Rincon Dental Amivel to take on Thomas Smith’s side.
BSR Amiab Albacete remain CD Ilunion’s closest challengers in the league and, the team featuring four GB players, will be looking to keep the pressure on the leaders when they go to Fundacion Vital Zuzenak.
Kyle Marsh, Harry Brown, Lee Manning and Gaz Choudhry have all played key roles in Albacete’s successful season to date, with Marsh posting his highest score of the season in last weekend’s victory over CB Las Rozas – their ninth league win of the season.
Lewis Edwards and Sam Mack will both be in action for Iberconsa Amfiv, who host Fundacion Grupo Norte this weekend.
In Germany, Simon Brown will be hoping to build on his season-high points tally from last weekend when RSV Lahn-Dill continue their league season against bottom-of-the-table BSC Rollers Zwickau.
Brown scored 13 points last weekend as RSV Lahn-Dill secured another victory to confirm their place in this season’s German play-offs.
Jim Palmer’s Rhine River Rhinos Wiesbaden will be targeting a return to winning ways as they host Roller Bull Ostbelgien. Palmer’s side are currently sixth in the German League; level on points with fourth and fifth.
