GB’s five Mideba players target back-to-back wins as European Leagues continue

Next week the GB Men’s team will meet-up in Sheffield for a training camp, but, before then, 18 GB players will be in action across Europe, including head-to-head fixtures between British players.

In Spain, Thomas Smith of Rincon Dental Amivel will face the all-British starting five of Mideba Extremadura.

Phil Pratt, George Bates, Gregg Warburton, Abdi Jama and Ben Fox all showed their strength in character as Mideba returned to winning ways against Fundacion Vital Zuzenak last weekend.

With Warburton and Fox both posting their highest points tallies of the season so far, the GB five will be hoping to pick-up where they left off last weekend when Amivel head to Badajoz.

Thomas Smith’s side arrive high on confidence, however, having won their last three games.

After facing the high-scoring Terry Bywater last weekend, James MacSorley will once again line-up against his GB teammates when Gran Canaria welcome the unbeaten BSR Amiab Albacete to their home arena.

A league-high 31 points from Gaz Choudhry last weekend helped Albacete continue their 100 per cent winning record from their opening six games; with Lee Manning, Kyle Marsh and Harry Brown also contributing to Albacete’s success.

Terry Bywater’s CD Ilunion side are also unbeaten this season and this weekend they travel north to Valladolid to face Fundacion Grupo Norte, who have won three and lost three.

Bywater will be looking to add to the 200 points he has scored already in the six games so far this season.

Two British players will be in action when CB Las Rozas FDI host Iberconsa Amfiv. Lewis Edwards and Sam Mack will both feature for Amfiv, who will be wanting to return to winning ways after a narrow defeat to Thomas Smith’s Amivel last weekend.

In Italy, Martin Edwards will be back in action on Saturday; 48 hours after posting the joint-highest score as his SSD Santa Lucia team beat Amicacci Giulianova 64-70 on Thursday night.

Santa Lucia travel to Cantu on Saturday, with both teams level on points in the Italian League.

It has been a mixed start for Ian Sagar and his new team, Special Sport Bergamo, with one win and two defeats from their opening three games. Amicacci Giulianova are Bergamo’s opponents on Saturday.

In Germany, Simon Brown will be hoping he can help RSV Lahn-Dill bounce back from their first defeat of the season when they host Hannover United.

Last weekend’s defeat to league leaders RSB Thuringia Bulls ended their 100 per cent winning record from their opening eight games.

Jim Palmer and his Rhine River Rhinos Wiesbaden side will be targeting back-to-back wins when they host Baskets 96 Rahden.
