Gaz Choudhry top scores in Spain as GB players help Albacete maintain unbeaten streak

Gaz Choudhry scored a league-high 31 points as four GB players helped BSR Amiab Albacete continue their unbeaten streak in Spain, while Mideba Extremadura returned to winning ways.

The reigning world and European champion totalled eight two-pointers, two three-pointers and nine successful free throws as Albacete beat Bidaideak Bilbao 91-81 to extend their winning start to the season to six games. 

Lee Manning added 19 points to Albacete’s total, with Kyle Marsh and Harry Brown contributing 10 and nine points, respectively. 

After losing to Albacete last weekend, Mideba Extremadura showed their strength in character, returning to winning ways with a 49-65 victory over Fundacion Vital Zuzenak. 

GB players scored all but four of Mideba’s points total with Gregg Warburton leading the scoring with 18 points – his highest points tally of the season. 

Ben Fox also secured a season-best haul with 13 points, while George Bates and Abdi Jama both added 12 points each.

Phil Pratt scored six points in addition to a league-high 16 assists; one more than Terry Bywater as his CD Ilunion side secured a six successive victory. 

Bywater scored 27 points in his team’s 80-55 win over James MacSorley’s BSR ACE Gran Canaria; with MacSorley contributing eight points to his side’s total. 

Three British players were in action as Thomas Smith helped Rincon Dental Amivel beat Lewis Edwards and Sam Mack’s Iberconsa Amfiv 60-55. 

Smith scored four points for Amivel, while Lewis Edwards matched his highest points total with another 10-point haul. 

In Germany, Jim Palmer scored nine points – including a three-pointer – as Rhine River Rhinos Wiesbaden were victorious in their home game against BG Baskets Hamburg. The final score was 78-60 in favour of Palmer’s team. 

Simon Brown was unable to stop RSV Lahn-Dill’s unbeaten start to the season coming to an end as his side lost 71-59 to fellow unbeaten side RSB Thuringia Bulls.

In Italy, Ian Sagar scored 18 points as Special Sport Bergamo lost 73-63 to Dinamo Lab.
