George Bates tops points scoring charts as GB trio lead the way in Spanish League

Great Britain’s George Bates topped the points scoring charts as three GB players finished the weekend as the top-three highest scorers in the Spanish League. 

Bates scored 38 points for Mideba Extremadura, while Terry Bywater and Gaz Choudhry scored four three-pointers each en-route to points totals of 30 and 29, respectively, for their Spanish clubs. 

In a clash of the Brits, GB players scored all 72 of Mideba’s points as they beat James MacSorley’s Gran Canaria by nine points in an enthralling game, featuring six British players. 

MacSorley scored eight points towards Gran Canaria’s total, but his team were outscored by his GB teammates. Phil Pratt totalled 16 points, Ben Fox scored 10, while Abdi Jama and Gregg Warburton both added four points each to the scoreboard. 

Gaz Choudhry was the standout British player for BSR Amiab Albacete in their 93-39 victory over Fundacion Vital Zuzenak; totalling 29 points, 14 assists and 12 rebounds. 

Choudhry was one of four GB players in action for Albacete; with the quartet contributing 60 points towards Albacete’s overall total. 

It was another 15-point weekend for Lee Manning as he matched his points total from gameweek 1, with Kyle Marsh and Harry Brown, adding 12 and four points, respectively. 

Terry Bywater impressed once again, scoring 30 points – including four three-pointers – to help CD Ilunion beat Thomas Smith’s Rincon Dental Amivel. 

It was a complete all-round performance by the five-time Paralympian, who also contributed with 10 assists and 10 rebounds. 

Thomas Smith scored 10 points and collected five assists for the visitors. 

Lewis Edwards and Sam Mack’s Iberconsa Amfiv side were unable to make it back-to-back wins as they lost 62-55 to Fundacion Grupo Norte. Edwards scored seven points and collected five assists. 

In Germany, Simon Brown scored eight points to help RSV Lahn-Dill continue their unbeaten start to the season with a 100-43 victory over Roller Zwickau. 

Jim Palmer’s Rhine River Rhino’s Wiesbaden returned to winning ways, with Palmer scoring four points.
