GB Junior Men’s Squad Triumphs in Barcelona

The GB men’s junior squad return undefeated following a successful XXV Trofeu International Barcelona Tournament. The team, five of whom were part of the 2017 U23 World Championships squad, delivered an impressive four for four to complete the Barcelona tournament and return home with the gold.

Over the weekend the impressive GB junior side faced Portugal’s senior men’s team, Spain’s senior women’s team and Catalonia’s senior squad. Results as follows:

Qualifying Games

GB v Portugal: 72-40

GB v Spain: 76-36

GB v Catalonia: 55-25

Gold Medal Game:

GB v Catalonia: 55-31

Following the team’s win GBs own Sam Mack was awarded Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the tournament.

The team was supported in Barcelona by Head Coach Scott Wallace, Assistant Coach Pete Finbow, Team Manager Phil Robinson and Physio Rachel Spanner.

Head Coach, Scott Wallace clearly delighted by the team’s result in Barcelona commented:

“Tournaments such as the XXV Trofeu International Barcelona provide vital competitive preparation opportunities for our GB Junior Squad ahead of the forthcoming European Championships.

“The impact of the National Lottery funding (announced in February 2018) is immediately apparent in the training and development opportunities that our GB Junior Programme now engages with. Success such as Barcelona will undoubtedly help realise the podium potential of our junior squad.”

The Junior GB Team are currently preparing for the U23 European Championships, Wednesday 10 September – Sunday 15 September 2018, Lagnano Sabbiadoro, Italy
